Dr. Sampath Kumar

Dr. Kumar is a Senior principal Scientist at CSIR-IICT and Professor AcSIR. He obtained his Ph.D. from the CSIR-Indian Institute of Chemical Technology, Hyderabad in 1995. He later worked on various aspects of agrochemical and pharmaceutical technology development at IICT, Hyderabad. He then moved to the Max Planck Institute for Molecular Physiology in Dortmund in 2000, as a prestigious Alexander von Humboldt Fellow to work with Prof. Herbert Waldmann in the area of nuclear localization and gene therapy. He returned to India in 2002 and continued working at CSIR-IICT and later relocated to Regional Research Laboratory in Jammu- presently rechristened as IIIM-Jammu in the year 2004. His research at IIIM-Jammu led to the institution of a new department dedicated for Synthetic and Biological Chemistry research with focus on medicinal chemistry and he served as the chairman of the department until 2009. Dr. Kumar relocated to CSIR-IICT and currently he is a nodal officer for the Vaccine adjuvants program at IICT-Hyderabad. The focus of his research is on the development of novel small molecule immunomodulators based on natural product scaffolds, vaccine(Th1) adjuvants based on pathogen associated molecular patterns and non-invasive vaccine delivery systems, peptide epitope based Synthetic vaccines.
